The world’s first batch of biodegradable shoes was launched at Beijing University of Chemical Technology on Aug 16. Zhang Licn, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Dynasty’s research team from Beijing University of Chemical Technology presented more than 500 pairs of the first batch of biodegradable shoes to the teachers, students and staff of Beihua University, giving them priority to enjoy the scientific research results led by the university.
It is reported that the sole of the biodegradable shoe innovatively uses biodegradable polyester rubber material independently developed by Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and the uppers and insole are made of hemp fiber, bamboo fiber, corn stalk latex material, etc., which can be stable in the daily environment and quickly degraded under compost conditions.
Scientific research team after 18 years researches, using the molecular structure design pioneered biological biodegradable polyester rubber material, broke through the high molecular weight polyester rubber continuous production process problem, completed the one thousand tons of continuous pilot test, and realize its in the biological degradable shoes, tires, oil seal, toughening agent, poly (lactic acid) (PLA) thermoplastic vulcanizates, and many other applications in the field of rubber.
According to Dynasty, the development of fully biodegradable shoes has been severely limited for a long time because there is no biodegradable rubber material in the world and it is difficult to prepare biodegradable soles. As many as 1 billion pairs of discarded shoes are produced in China every year, which could pose a threat to the natural environment if not recycled and disposed of effectively.
Since 2019, the team members to focus on service national “double carbon” strategy, in order to “innovation, low carbon, environmental protection, health” for the idea, working to develop the biological degradable shoes, after three years study, through the molecular structure design, rubber composite material composition control and interface function research, to solve the contradiction between the sole degradation and service performance, The biodegradable rubber soles that meet the performance requirements have been prepared, and the technological process of large-scale production has been opened up, and small batch production has been carried out. In the future, we will cooperate with related enterprises to achieve large-scale production as soon as possible.
